The Lunar New Year TET Festival is the flagship event for VCA Vic, with heavy emphasis on showcasing the cultural elements.
To differentiate itself from other Lunar New Year celebrations held around Melbourne, cultural displays, community engagement and intercultural elements are key to the festival themes.
Increasingly the TET festival includes displays of cultures via innovative, intergenerational lenses of young Australians of Vietnamese background, creating a sense of unique social harmony and cultural richness.
The TET management team spends our efforts on curating a high standard of food stalls, community stalls and carnival rides. It is the focus because it highlights what is unique about our product and why people should attend; for a deeper experience than the normal vernacular of food and carnival rides.
The TET Festival has been held since 1980s, starting from the beginning of the Footscray Park for over 10 years. Over time, it had moved around Melbourne, from Footscray to Docklands, Sandown and Melbourne Showgrounds.
In the early days, the TET Festival was the only festival in Melbourne that celebrated the Vietnamese Lunar New Year and attracted tens of thousands of festival goers as a free event.
Over the past three years, the TET Festival was held at the Melbourne Showgrounds and was hosted by a team of young professionals who are committed and passionate about hosting a unique TET Festival. They are also committed to promote a strong presence in culture and the arts to make their mark in this area.
